Camera Tricks

Interactive dioramas proposed for the Museum of the Moving Image that demonstrate how iconic shots were created without the aid of CGI.

Created for Cabinets of Wonder  at ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) at NYU.

This prototype demonstrates how this shot from “Sunset Boulevard” (1950) was achieved using a mirror rather than placing a camera underwater.  A tab on the front of the diorama allows the user to manipulate the ripples in the water to demonstrate that the camera feed is live.

Each diorama in the series would have a live camera, monitor, and interactive component.

Other proposed dioramas: Forced Perspective, Dolly-Zoom, Gimbel, and Matte Paintings
